Fuchsia Fantasy Flying DollFuchsia Fantasy is the pink one — the doll most of us picture when someone says Sky Dancers.
We are Sky Dancers, the doll that first spun off a launcher in 1994 and has been teaching kids to look up ever since. You set her on the base, pull the cord in one quick stroke, and she lifts off spinning, foam wings open, before twirling back down into someone's hands.
Today our flying dolls come from three new homes — the Enchanted Garden, the Gemstone Forest and Sugar Valley — and still need nothing but a pull: no batteries, no charging, no screen. Beside them stand our tall cousins, the inflatable tube men and the blowers that keep them dancing over shops, orchards and back yards.
“They really dance and fly in the air!”
Four dolls are in the air right now. Each has her own colours and launcher; all four fly the same way — one pull, one spin, one slow twirl home.

Sky Dancers were released in 1994, when the idea of a doll that really flew sounded like a dare. The spark came from watching maple seeds spin to the ground; the toy that grew from it was a ballerina with foam wings under her arms and a launcher at her feet. Galoob sold the first wave across the US, and later waves reached the UK, Italy and Japan. Over the years more than 30 million Sky Dancers have flown out of their boxes.

In 1996 the dolls got a story of their own. The animated series follows five students of the High Hope Dance Academy — Jade, Camille, Slam, Angelica and Breeze — taught by the widowed Queen Skyla. When the Wingdom is in danger, Queen Skyla calls her students through the Sky Swirl Stone, and they dance as Sky Dancers against Sky Clone, the jealous brother who wants the stone and the throne.
The series ran for a single season of episodes. Jade studies ballet, Camille modern dance, Angelica country, Breeze her heritage dances and Slam hip-hop, and each episode follows one of them finding courage on the dance floor and in the Wingdom. Several episodes were released on VHS and later on DVDs, some packed with Sky Dancers dolls; a list of the home releases is long, but the whole series was never collected in one set.
The first Sky Dancers flew hard, and in 2000 the original line was recalled after reports of injuries from dolls launched toward faces. That lesson shaped how we fly today: launch away from people, point the launcher at open sky or ceiling, and let younger kids practise with a grown-up nearby.
Yes. Sky Dancers are made again, with new dolls, new realms and the same pull-string flight. Fuchsia Fantasy carries the pink look of the nineties, Turquoise Twinkle and Purple Licious bring new colours from Sugar Valley, and Lovely Luna opens the Sky Dancers Style wave. Collectors still hunt the vintage boxes, but the new dolls are made to be flown, caught and flown again.
Sharing memories with my children!
I played with one of these in the 90s so I got my daughters a couple. Brought back memories! Flies high! They love to send it off and see who can catch it. Perfect gift! Batteries not needed! Kids play with this for hours at a time. Size is perfect and it’s so fun! Worth every cent!
So much fun! Nostalgic toy
Brought me back to when I was a little girl! My sister and I had sky dancers when we were kids and now I got one for my daughter and she absolutely loves it! The ultimate 90s kid toy.
Had one as a kid. Just as fun as an adult.
Easy fun toy! My daughter will launch and chase it around for hours on end. Can play alone or with friends! The details are beautiful. To have a fund toy with no batteries the absolute best!
Solid, quality, and get allll the ladies
We named our flying guy “Doug” and he’s employee of the month! He brings in all the ladies. We love him and he works perfectly. Very sturdy and well-made. We have zero complaints and are glad we settled on this one. I was worried it would be flimsy and not last long, but I was pleasantly surprised at the quality!
Attention getting and effective
These were bought to frighten birds from my father's small blueberry orchard. They worked like a charm! People all over our small town noticed and were so curious, haha. The birds noticed and flew somewhere else for dinner.
Ideal for advertising!
Simple to use! Only thing I could possibly recommend is to cut out a piece of 18" sq plywood to place beneath it if you have to set it on grass or dirt, so that it doesn't suck up any debris and blow it all over everything. I have a 16" tube that works just fine on this 12-in fan. I placed a bungee cord around the base and it kept blowing just fine!
Yes. New Sky Dancers flying dolls are in production with the same pull-string launcher and no batteries. Fuchsia Fantasy, Turquoise Twinkle, Purple Licious and Lovely Luna are flying now.
The original Galoob line was recalled in 2000 after injuries from dolls launched toward faces. The current dolls fly the same way, so launch away from people and supervise younger children.
The doll sits on a launcher with a pull cord. A quick, straight pull spins the base, the doll leaves it spinning, and her foam wings catch the air and slow her into a twirl on the way down.
No. All the power comes from the pull of the string, which is why they work in the yard, at the park and on holiday.
Boxed vintage dolls from the nineties are collected and can fetch a good price, especially twin packs and rare launchers. The new dolls are priced as toys, made to be played with.
The boxes say 6 years and up. Many parents start younger with help on the first pulls, since the cord takes a firm draw.
